Adulting (v): to do grown up things and hold responsibilities such as, a 9-5 job, a mortgage/rent, a car payment, or anything else that makes one think of grown ups.

This blog has been created for a lot of reasons. The number one reason being that as a newly minted 25 year old I was under the impression I was supposed to have my life figured out by now.

Mom and Dad were married, had a house, two car garage, a dog, successful jobs and I was a twinkle in their eye by this point. I, on the other hand, just finished a meal of carry out pizza while Family Guy played in the background. I’m being a little dramatic – typical millennial right? I ate that pizza in my nice apartment, with my handsome long term boyfriend (Kyle), after getting home from a job where I’m appreciated, while my puppy (Maverick) slept in the next room AND we even had toppings on the pizza (diced tomatoes if you were wondering, I don’t do that ham and pineapple nonsense). Still don’t have a two car garage though.

I did everything right. I had fantastic grades in high school and was involved in every extra-curricular I could jam in. I went to an excellent college (I-L-L-I-N-I) and had an internship upon graduation at Disney World. After that, my big-girl-job search didn’t take too long before I ended up at a great company with supportive leaders. In the traditional view, all that’s missing is a ring and the 2.5 kiddos. Truth is, I have no idea what I want and I’m not entirely sure the classic “American Dream” is for me.

I’ve become complacent. I’m used to accomplishing things but it’s been a struggle since leaving my internship. I’ve gained 40 pounds, I’m bad at keeping in contact with my friends and family, my skin has gone crazy, motivation has fizzled and the seasonal blues are harder to kick than before. I’m trying to get back on track as an adult, figure out what it is I want from life and what I’m meant to do here. Life doesn’t always work out the way you planned. I’m reminding myself that’s ok but I don’t have to keep going the way that I am either.

My “adulting” goals

  1. Become debt free by February 2019. I currently have a decent sized student loan and a car loan so this is an ambitious goal but I have lots of plans that I’ll detail in future posts.
  2. Lose those 40 pounds by October 2017 and increase my physical activity. I’ve already started by trying to hit my daily goal of 8,000 steps with my FitBit
  3. Travel to at least one new place every year. For 2016 I’m deciding between California and Canada… stay tuned for the exciting conclusion.
  4. Finish upholstering and staining the kitchen chairs. Seriously, I’ve had these things for months and I still haven’t done it (sorry Kyle!).
  5. Save $10,000 in an emergency fund by this time next year. For my plan to accomplish this click here!

You can expect posts about food, fitness, rants, my puppy, finance, travel, lists, books, DIY and whatever else I can cram onto this platform.

Adventure is out there! And I’m going to find it. I hope you stick around for the trip!
